A Day at the Ringling Museum Galleries with My Mom

Re:purposed
Continuing the tradition of Marcel Duchamps 20th century "readymade" concept, 10 artists are brought to the Ringling Museum Galleries to showcase their use of recycled materials. These artists are using everyday objects to create complex works of art.

Jill creates "the Hut" #10 which is the latest "outpost" in her international series of cite specific works. This piece took two weeks to complete using trash that employees brought into work. She has a background in Philosophy of Science and Art and is with a Dance Company.

The first time I saw Nick Caves sculptures was at Miami Art Basel. He created sound suite mannequins made completely covered in soda cans. When I found out it was the same artist at the Ringling I was excited to see the exhibition because I believe in the idea that we should be using these found materials in art today. In the show Repurposed Nick covers mannequins in crocheted bags, mats, hats, doilies, metal rods, toys, and jewelry to conceal race, gender, and class.
